Repulsive Results

Welcome to the third in a series on the Dangers of Ignoring how Social Media Drives SEO. Today’s topic: Repulsive Results.

Your competitors swamp search engine results while your company is nowhere to be found producing discouraging – even repulsive, results.

But don’t despair. Your pages are not doomed to dwell on page 17 forever.

Here’s why: Search engines are always tweaking their techniques and undulating their algorithms to deliver relevant results. So take heart! And take note of a few simple approaches that can help raise your search engine rankings AND have your social media efforts working together in harmony.

In previous discussions we’ve covered how social media posts (blog entries, tweets, Facebook pages, LinkedIn profiles) all contribute to search engine optimization. The formula:

Focused content + Frequent posts = Improved search engine results

Are you unhappy with your search engine results? Try one (or all) of the following:

- Make a list of 3-5 keywords that best describe your company’s products or services.

- Now that you’ve determined what YOU think your most effective keywords are see what web users are ACTUALLY searching. Give it a whirl! Try the Google keyword tool to see how your match up.

- Take results to heart and act on them. Remember: It doesn’t matter what keywords you think people should be searching. It is what your hopefully long-term customer actually searches that counts!
